Urban theory: new critical perspectives

22 Awst 2016

Exploring new perspectives on urban theory debates, a new book edited by Professor Mark Jayne, School of Geography and Planning at Cardiff University and Professor Kevin Ward, University of Manchester, offers a critical and accessible introduction to the development of urban theory.

The book explores twenty-four topics, including new additions to the urban theoretical debate, highlighting their relationship to long established concerns that continue to be discussed, and which also engage with rich new and emerging avenues for debate.

Speaking about the book, Professor Mark Jayne said: “As a critical and assessable introduction to original and groundbreaking urban theory, the book will be essential reading for students in human geography, sociology, anthropology, cultural studies, economics, planning, political science and urban studies.

“We hope we have presented what is often a wide ranging topic in a logical and accessible form, making it ideal for both learning and teaching.”

Urban Theory: New Critical Perspectives is a collection of essays which offer an introduction to topics that set the scene for a full understanding of recent theoretical engagement with cities.
