New Sustainable Places PhD Student - Kate O'Sullivan
14 Hydref 2015
Originally from a small mining village just outside Neath, South Wales, Kate grew up in a peripheral area defined by its past and current industry. This has influenced Kate's research interests around the environment and how it is utilized and managed by humans and also, theories of equity, equality and justice. These areas of interest led Kate to complete a BSc in Geography and MSc in Social Research Methods at Swansea University.
Kate is now starting her PhD here in Sustainable Places at Cardiff University, being supervised by Dr Oleg Golubchikov from Cardiff School of Planning and Geography and Sustainable Places Research Fellow Dr Abid Mehmood. Kate's research throughout her PhD will look at the impacts of energy transitions on vulnerable peripheral communities. This thesis combines her interests of the environment and social justice and will investigate governance challenges arising from the low-carbon energy transition in peripheral communities in the Brecon Beacons National Park, Wales.
