Minister Ma Hui visits Cardiff Confucius Institute

On 7th February 2019 Minister Ma Hui from the Chinese Embassy in London paid a visit to the Cardiff Confucius Institute and Cardiff University.
The purpose of the Minister's visit was to develop a better understanding of the Cardiff Confucius Institute and to establish friendly, cooperative relations between the Embassy and the wider University. During his visit, the Minister met with senior staff at Cardiff University including Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Nora de Leeuw and Dean for International (China), Professor Wenguo Jiang. He also spent time visiting the China Cardiff Medical Research Collaboration, the University’s award-winning medical and cancer research group.
In his visit to the Cardiff Confucius Institute, Mr Ma was keen to congratulate staff on all their work. He was also keen to learn more about the work of the Institute in delivering Chinese language teaching to various stakeholders across Wales, including primary and secondary schools, university students, and adult learners. Following his visit, Mr Ma said “I am delighted to learn the success of the Institute and its contribution to mutual understanding and friendship between Wales (the UK) and China. I sincerely hope the Confucius Institute will continue to play a positive role and serve very good purposes betwee the people of China and those of other countries.”
Following his meetings, Minister Ma and colleagues, accompanied by staff from the Confucius Institute and Cardiff University, attended the Welsh Government’s Chinese New Year reception held at the Temple of Peace. The event was well attended and an opportunity to network and share experiences for those from the business community in Wales with connections to China.
