Chancellor’s Research Fellow shortlisted for the 2015 Women of the Future Awards

Dr Jennifer Edwards, Chancellor’s Research Fellow in the Cardiff Catalysis Institute (CCI), is one of five young women whose achievements in science will be celebrated at the prestigious awards next month.

Dr Edwards’ career highlights include doctoral work on gold catalysis with Professor Graham Hutchings within the CCI, followed by a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Fellowship at Tokyo Metropolitan University with Professor Masatake Haruta in 2010.

Dr Edwards said: “I am delighted to have been shortlisted for Women of the Future Award. I am very passionate about my research activities in the CCI, and it's wonderful that my work over the last 10 years has been recognised in this way. Catalysis plays such a huge role in everyday life and I hope that that my research into gold catalysis and the direct synthesis of hydrogen peroxide will go some way towards improving the environment in which we live.”

Professor Graham Hutchings added: “We are delighted that both Jenny and her research work have been recognised by the judging panel. Jenny has made an outstanding contribution to Cardiff Catalysis Institute, and her research on gold as a catalyst for hydrogen peroxide synthesis has played a key role in developing the Institute’s reputation for world-leading research.”

Now in their tenth year, the awards take place at the London Hilton on 27 October and celebrate young women’s achievements across sectors including science, arts and culture, business, technology and sport.
