Foundation programme for pharmacists in Wales

A team from Aberdeen, funded by NHS Education Scotland (NES), is evaluating their foundation training programme for pharmacists in Scotland.

This programme is designed to equip newly qualified pharmacists with a generic range of core pharmacy skills. Wales is adopting the same model (and materials) for their introduction of a foundation programme for pharmacists in Wales. We are collaborating with the Aberdeen team to evaluate the Wales programme, following the same protocol as used in Scotland.

Our aim is to establish:

  • how the programme contributes to the development of the professional pharmacist?
  • does the programme meet the needs of the pharmacists and their educational tutors?
  • do responses to the programme change over time?
  • how might the programme be improved?
