Discover Economics at Cardiff University

Economics is an exciting subject, an understanding of which provides opportunities for young people to question and explore the society they live in. However, many have very little idea what economics is about.

Discover Economics aims to provide opportunities for young people to gain insights into the discipline and the potential career opportunities studying economics provides.

Last year 3,000 young people participated in a Discover Economics workshop and results show that by attending there is a 13% increase in the stated likelihood of studying economics.

We invite you to attend an in-person on campus Discover Economics event at Cardiff Business School.

The primary objective of this event is to inspire, support, and encourage young people, particularly those from under-represented groups, to study economics at university.

What does the event involve?

The event is a one-off session hosted at Cardiff University and will include a series of activities led by speakers from a range of backgrounds, including current economics students. It is designed to give young people a better understanding of economics through presenting illustrative applications of economics in a range of contexts and introducing the careers of professional economists.

Students will have the opportunity to learn more about how to enter the Royal Economics Society Young Economist of the Year competition sponsored by KPMG. The competition aims at encouraging students to produce their own ideas in analysing contemporary economic problems facing the UK and the world.
