The Cardiff Challenge
The Cardiff Challenge is a public value competition, which creates innovative solutions to prominent social issues.
We aim to facilitate Welsh Baccalaureate, Btech, and A Level students in creating innovative solutions to prominent social issues in their community. This will allow them to further their own skills at the same time as finding ways to help others.
Student benefits
The challenge will enable students to:
- create something of benefit to the community as well as developing student’s own self-confidence, self-esteem and self-worth
- develop skills such as personal effectiveness, planning and organization
- produce something that shows a contribution to their issues and the benefits that it will create for themselves, others and the environment.
- do 50 hours+ over at least 4 weeks, with 30 hours being in the community.
The aim of the challenge is to emulate the successes of the Aspen Challenge founded in the United States. It will involve schools in Cardiff and surrounding areas, with the long-term aim of developing the geographic reach across the UK.
Equipped with tools and support, teams will be briefed to design a solution to their selected challenge. Eight weeks later, they will present their solutions on stage in a day-long pitching competition, where they will showcase their work at the Cardiff Challenge Festival.
Project advisors
Each group will get their very own project advisor from the Marketing department at Cardiff Business School:
