Our Master of Research (MRes) programmes are designed to further develop your research skills and provide you with a valuable postgraduate qualification.

MRes in Biosciences

Student in laboratory

This one-year programme will provide you with the essential skills, techniques and experience necessary to become a more competent, employable researcher. You may even have the opportunity to undertake a research project in the laboratory of an internationally-renowned scientist within the School of Biosciences, the College of Biomedical and Life Sciences, the Neuroscience and Mental Health Research Institute or the European Cancer Stem Cell Research Institute.

We also welcome applications from individuals with relevant commercial experience who only wish to undertake Stage 1 of the Programme (Postgraduate Certificate).

Many of our graduating MRes students achieve excellent employment opportunities within organisations in roles such as laboratory technicians, teachers, consultants, nature conservationists and research technicians.

Our MRes programme is also ideal if you are thinking of undertaking a PhD but would like to learn more about research first. Approximately 55–65% of our MRes students go on to do a PhD.
