Our research is driven by five specialist groups.

Applied and Computational Mathematics Research Group

Our research spans applied analysis, fluid dynamics, mathematical biology, numerical analysis and scientific computing, and the mechanics of solids, and has many applications in natural and physical sciences, engineering and technology.

Geometry, Algebra, Mathematical Physics and Topology Research Group

In line with much of modern mathematics, this group is a blend of pure mathematicians and theoretical physicists.

Mathematical Analysis Research Group

Cardiff Analysis spans an exciting range of topics including spectral theory and spectral geometry, related areas such as analytic number theory and microlocal analysis, through to inverse problems, imaging, nonlinear PDEs, deterministic and stochastic homogenisation.

Operational Research Group

Our research contributes to fundamental operational research theory and creates impact. We have particular strengths and leading expertise in areas of optimisation and planning, queueing systems, healthcare modelling, environmental modelling, and finance and risk.

Statistics and Data Science Research Group

The group is active both in applications of statistical techniques and in theory.
