The Cardiff Centre for Crime, Law and Justice has an established international reputation for theoretically informed, policy focused, methodologically rigorous interdisciplinary research. The Centre is collaboration between the Cardiff School of Social Sciences’ Crime and Justice Research Group and the Cardiff School of Law’s Procedural Justice Research Group.
Cardiff Work Environment Research Centre (CWERC) undertakes research to understand the relationship between health, safety and well-being in the working environment. It is a Joint Research Centre and supported by the Schools of Psychology and Social Sciences. It provides an integrated identity for the considerable research expertise on the work environment in these Schools and other parts of the university.
CESAGen is a collaborative research centre which is funded as part of the ESRC Genomics Network. The Centre is based at the universities of Lancaster and Cardiff. At Cardiff, CESAGen is housed in The School of Social Sciences, and at Lancaster in The Institute for Philosophy and Public Policy (IPPP).
The Centre for Global Labour Research (CGLR) is sponsored by the Cardiff School of Social Sciences and the Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University. The Centre comprises an expert set of researchers who are committed to research, teaching and dissemination on the impact of changing work, employment and consumption patterns.
The Cardiff Unit for Research and Evaluation in Medical and Dental Education (CUREMeDE) was established in 2009. It is a collaboration between Cardiff University School of Social Sciences and the Wales Postgraduate Deanery (the School of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education). The purpose of the Unit is to conduct multidisciplinary research and evaluation of the education and training of health professionals. Our intention is to produce high quality outputs which contribute to enhancing the educational development of health professionals in Wales and beyond.
DECIPHer will bring together leading experts from a range of disciplines to tackle public health issues such as diet and nutrition, physical activity; and alcohol, tobacco and drugs, with a particular focus on developing and evaluating multi-level interventions that will have an impact on the health and well-being of children and young people. The Centre will engage strongly with policy, practice and public user communities to translate the research results into practical outcomes.
KES specialises in sociology and history of science, sociology of scientific and medical knowledge, and studies of the nature of expertise as a form of knowledge.
The Regeneration Institute is a joint venture initially between the School of City and Regional Planning and the School of Social Sciences. The Institute acts as a vehicle for research in area-based regeneration, embracing academic and policy-related research at both local and international levels.
SIRC conducts professional scientific research solely focused on seafarers, looking into the social, political, and economic dimensions of seafarers lives. SIRC was established in 1995 as part of the Cardiff University School of Social Sciences with a view to conducting research on seafarers, and has since built up unparalleled experience of research in this field.
The ESRC Centre on Skills, Knowledge and Organisational Performance (SKOPE) aims to examine the links between the acquisition and use of skills and knowledge, product market strategies and performance (measured in a variety of ways).
The Universities' Police Science Institute has been established to enhance the research-based evidence for policing, in order that the police both nationally and internationally are better able to meet these demands. Adopting an inter-disciplinary approach, the UPSI will: apply leading-edge and rigorous research methodologies in the study of police practice; provide new opportunities in training and education for serving officers and potential recruits; and act in an advisory and consultative capacity to policing agencies in designing innovative attempts to solve problems.
The creation of the Wales Institute of Social & Economic Research, Data & Methods (WISERD) heralds an exciting new beginning for Wales. Bringing together leading universities and a range of partners, including the Welsh Assembly Government, this project will establish a centre of international excellence in the application of mixed methods and methodologies to social and economic problems.
Archived Research Centres
CISHE conducts and co-ordinates methodologically innovative multidisciplinary research, with a strong contribution from the social sciences and within the related domains of biomedicine, health services and public health.
Qualiti is part of the ESRC National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM). The NCRM provides a strategic focal point for the identification, development and delivery of an integrated national research, training and capacity-building programme.
