Professor Alan Felstead Accepts Prestigious Book Prize
8 November 2010
Improving Working as Learning has been ‘highly recommended’ by the Society for Educational Studies for books published in 2009. The book was judged to be of ‘fundamental importance’ to the study, understanding and conceptualization of workplace learning. The empirical research for the book was taken from around 500 interviews in a dozen sectors of the economy, various forms of work observation and two surveys of 4,000 employees. The prize was awarded at the Society for Educational Studies Annual Seminar held in London and announced in the Times Higher Education early in November 2010. Professor Alan Felstead of SOCSI received the award the Book Prize on behalf of the authors. He said, ‘I am delighted and honoured that the Society has recognized the value, importance and originality of our conceptual and empirical contribution to the study of workplace learning’.
