National Award for Excellence in Teaching Sociology Prize

Head of The Cardiff School of Social Sciences Professor Malcolm Williams and Dr Geoff Payne of Newcastle University have been awarded this years BSA/C-SAP National Award for Excellence in Teaching Sociology. The prize was awarded for their work over the last decade in researching the problems of teaching quantitative methods in sociology and developing new pedagogy in this area. Last year Geoff and Malcolm brought together a number of initiatives in quantitative pedagogy in a Sage collection Teaching Quantitative Methods. More recently Malcolm, along with Sin Yi Cheung and Luke Sloan, have begun work on two ESRC funded projects to investigate best practice in quants teaching in other countries and in embedding quantitative methods in the social science curriculum.
