When is an Animal Model of Disease Good Enough: representation and embodiment in the laboratory

In this paper we refer to research in two substantive fields of sociology – science and technology studies and ethnomethodology – and the research field of animal studies, all of which attempt to make empirical topics out of basic epistemological issues (Lynch 1988). We do so to unpack the fundamental epistemological decisions involved in creating disease replicates in animals such as rat and mouse that endeavour to map and mirror the human manifestation.
