The term ‘dignity’ is appearing with increased frequency in policy documents relating especially to the health and social care of older people. When the term is defined, it is it is invariably from the viewpoint of health or social care managers or policy makers, rather than from that of service users and those health and social care workers who directly provide the service.  Over the last twelve years, Win Tadd of Cardiff University has led a portfolio of high-profile research projects investigating issues of dignity and its meaning in older age.
