Management in Social Care — Performance and Evaluation (SIR033)
This module aims to help build management leadership shaped by the values and skills of social work. Students will be committed to the responsible management of service planning, delivery and review and to the importance of reflective and innovative management thinking and practice. Evaluative aspects of managing social care are discussed and different focal points are identified, including ways to appraise effort, performance, adequacy, efficiency, process and risk. The impact of management by objectives, quality management and Best Value are reviewed. Organisation and management research findings are examined briefly in terms their usefulness for our understanding of contemporary management and organisation in social care, and the general improvement of managerial effectiveness.
