Undergraduate Enrolment for New Students 2012-13

(Joint Social Science Degree Programmes)
Monday 24th September Your first important meeting in SOCSI is the School Welcome on Monday 24th September 2012. You will be sent details of where and what time you should attend (either am or pm). At this event you will be given your enrolment paperwork and given the name of your Personal Tutor. After the School Welcome, you are advised to go and find your tutor's office and sign up for a meeting. Your personal tutor will post exact times on their office door.
Tuesday 25th September Your first Personal Tutor Meeting will then take place on Tuesday 25th September. You should have signed up to an appointment after your School Welcome talk on Monday.
Wednesday 26th September Enrolment is an on-line task which must be completed AFTER you have met with your personal tutor to discuss your module selections. To access the on-line task log on to SIMS online using the log in details that have been issued to you. You will be asked to confirm your programme of study and select your modules. You can do the online task remotely using your own computer or use a University computer. The SOCSI computer lab (Room 0.88) will be open from 9.00am to 4.00pm on Wednesday 26th September for students to use. Staff will be available in the SOCSI computer lab/SOCSI Undergraduate Office if students require help or get into any difficulty with the online task.
Students doing a programme which runs across two schools (joint students) should ensure they have visited their Associate School and Home School before finalising module choices on-line.

If your programme allows you to take additional optional modules outside of your home & associate school and you choose these, you should go to the Humanities building between 9.00am and 12.00pm on Wednesday 26th September, prior to completing the on-line task. You will need to ensure the relevant school has signed the form you will be given. The form needs to be returned to your ‘Home’ school.

Thursday 27th September Library Induction will take place on Thursday 27th September in the Bute Building (located next to the Glamorgan Building) in the Birt Acres Lecture Theatre. These will take place at 10.10am and 12.10pm depending on what degree scheme you are taking. The library induction will introduce to you the Cardiff University Library Service. You will get to know the diverse range of library services, resources and support available to SOCSI students. Please see the link below for details.
Week beginning Monday 1st October Introduction to Cardiffmail and Learning Central will run every day at 10.00am and 11.00am in the SOCSI computer lab (Rm 0.88) Students should sign up for a session via the sign up sheets on the Year 1 Noticeboard. Learning Central and Cardiffmail will be the main ways we pass on information to you, so you are strongly advised to attend.
If you have any queries or are unsure about anything, please ask a member of staff. Your key information point will be the Undergraduate Office, which is Room 0.06 in the Glamorgan Building.
