CISHE Mission StatementCISHE undertakes methodologically innovative multidisciplinary research with a focus on:
CISHE aims to lead and facilitate research of international excellence, placing emphasis on tackling health inequalities and ensuring that our research has an impact on policy and practice in Wales and beyond. CISHE is home to the UKCRC funded Public Health Research Centre of
Excellence DECIPHer – the Centre for the Development and Evaluation
of Complex Interventions for Public Health Improvement. It is also home
to PHIRN - Public Health Improvement Research Network and WHIASU - Welsh
Health Impact Assessment Support Unit. |
Focus On:New CISHE ProjectCISHE has been awarded funding for a major new project which will evaluate the Strengthening Families 10-14 UK Programme in Wales (SFP10-14 UK), a substance misuse prevention intervention. The research study - Project SFP Cymru - is being funded by the National Prevention Initiative and includes the cost of delivering the programme in three local areas in Wales. Interventions for Public Health Improvement (DECIPHer) is one of five
new UKCRC Public Health Research Centres of Excellence. DECIPHer will
bring together leading experts from a range of disciplines to tackle
public health issues such as diet and nutrition, physical activity;
and alcohol, tobacco and drugs, with a particular focus on developing
and evaluating multi-level interventions that will have an impact on
the health and well-being of children and young people. The Centre will
engage strongly with policy, practice and public user communities to
translate the research results into practical outcomes. |

Events:Fourth Julian Tudor Hart Annual Lecture - presentation now availableCardiff Institute of Society, Health and Ethics and PHA Cymru held the fourth in the Julian Tudor Hart annual lecture series on 9th December 2009. The aim of this lecture series is to engage the academic community in Wales in topical public health issues with a view to promoting relevant research and scholarship. The fourth lecture in the series was delivered by Professor David Hunter and was entitled ‘Tackling wicked issues: the case of health inequalities’. Please click here for a copy
