Research

The School of Engineering is highly regarded as one of the best schools in the UK in terms of the quality of its research and the impact it is having on industry, society and the economy (Research Excellence Framework 2014).

We conduct internationally recognised research across a wide range of engineering disciplines. Our research is organised into three major research themes which reflect current economic, governmental and social priorities.

Working with industrial partners and other organisations, our researchers are leading cutting-edge projects that have numerous practical applications.

Energy and environment

Themes

These themes reflect the role that engineering plays in finding solutions to contemporary and future environmental, social, health and economic challenges.

Centre for High Frequency engineering

Centres and groups

The School is home to various established research centres and groups focusing on practical applications across the field of engineering.

Digital Economy

Cross-disciplinary research

The School has established a number of cross cutting units which involve staff from across the three research themes.
