Robot helps manufacture sculptural acoustic panels for WSA meeting room

The new Conference Room at the Welsh School of Architecture is a beautiful modern space, but has one problem: It has bad acoustics. All the surfaces are hard and very reflective. In order to soften some of the surfaces and introduce a sculptural element, Dr. Wassim Jabi, a Senior Lecturer, suggested using the WSA's KUKA KR60 HA 6-axis robot to manufacture and install undulating sculptural acoustic panels made of polystyrene.... read more

Scholarships available for International Post Graduate Students

The College of Physical Sciences and Engineering is offering self-funded, international students scholarships worth a maximum of £4,000. Scholars must evidence outstanding academic achievement, and display commitment to innovation, entrepreneurship and community engagement. Applicants must have firmly accepted a conditional offer on a post graduate taught course at the Welsh School of Architecture by 30 July 2015; and, have firmly accepted an unconditional offer via the Cardiff University SIMS Applicant Portal by 30th September 2015. Low Carbon Architecture Summer Programme 2015

In the latest assessment of research activity in UK universities, 90% of the WSA's research impact has been judged as outstanding (4*). This places us at the top of the table for impact in the assessment panel for Architecture, Built Environment and Planning.
