We bring a range of expertise in brain imaging from MR physics to advanced modelling and analysis of neuroimaging data.
About
Based in the Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC), we apply physical principles to a diverse set of neuroimaging techniques to make more accurate measurements of biological processes in the brain.
We develop techniques to measure the control of blood flow in the brain by combining advanced MR imaging sequences with mathematical modelling of physiological processes.
Our goal is to track deterioration of brain vascular health during ageing, allowing early intervention in neurological disorders. We apply these techniques in many different populations to investigate the causes of cerebrovascular dysfunction and uncover new therapeutic targets.
We use computational physics to optimise simulations of the physical phenomena that give rise to neuroimaging signals. Solving forward and inverse problems enables a better characterisation of electrical sources of brain activity, gaining new insights into brain electrophysiology.
We use CUBRIC’s ultra-strong gradient MRI system to increase the efficiency of microstructural MRI. We develop MR physics to achieve faster imaging of quickly decaying signals.
Through machine learning we extract relevant features from multi-contrast MRI, while our computational experiments derive detailed information about small-scale properties of brain tissue and inform us of more efficient ways to collect data.
