Thesis

Damage Detection in Reinforced Concrete and Self-Healing Concrete Structures using Non-Destructive Testing Techniques

This thesis mainly focused on the investigation of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques in the Structure Health Monitoring (SHM) and damage detection of civil engineering structures. The techniques applied in this work explored the application and feasibility of Acoustic Emission (AE) and Acousto-Ultrasonics (AU) to monitor and characterise the behaviour of the recently designed and developed innovative type of concrete. Experimental studies were conducted on a range of specimen on a different scale, focusing on the development and application of techniques and data analysis methods for source characterisation, damage detection, location and assessment.
