We are looking to recruit research participants who have used, or have provided, an ophthalmic service in Cardiff and Vale University Health Board as part of the Welsh Government's plans to transfer healthcare services into the community.

The high demand for eye care in the UK means that hospital eye care services can be over-burdened. The Welsh Government has detailed plans to (where possible) move healthcare services and resources into the community as part of their ‘A Healthier Wales’ plan.

We are looking to recruit research participants who have used or provided a service as part of this restructure to take part in this research study.

Aims

The overall objective of the study is to examine the views of practitioners, and patient reported outcomes and experiences of eye care services provided in the Transforming Eye Care Services Wales project.

The services in question are:

  • glaucoma (newly referred patients)
  • glaucoma (follow up patients)
  • wet age-related macular degeneration
  • diabetic eye care
  • unscheduled ophthalmic care.

We will be inviting some patients and healthcare staff to take part in telephone interviews to discuss their experiences.
