Nursing alumni reunite at Heath Park
29 October 2025
Seven Nursing alumni returned to the Heath Park campus this September for a reunion and campus tour.
Organised by Nikki Walters (BN 1988), the visit brought together former classmates from the 1980s to reconnect and reflect on their student days.
The group was welcomed by Beverly Johnson, Lecturer in Nursing, who led a tour of the latest teaching facilities, including Heath Park West, the Cochrane Building, and Ty Dewi Sant. For many, it was the first time back on campus in decades.
The alumni reminisced about practising procedures on one another and being made to walk around the hospital in pairs, one blindfolded or in a wheelchair, so they could experience a different perspective.
During the visit they also had the chance to explore and admire the modern simulation suites and learning spaces available to today’s students.
"It was fantastic to have the opportunity to see the school of nursing as it is now and to meet the amazing future nurses currently training. It is so different from our day, when we had three rooms in the basement under the concourse!”
Since graduating, the alumni have gone on to build successful nursing careers across the UK, working in roles spanning clinical practice, education, and healthcare leadership. Following the visit, they reflected on how their Cardiff nursing degrees laid a strong foundation for their professional journeys, equipping them with the skills, confidence, and compassion that continue to shape their work today.
