Energy + Notion - Schools

Delivered by Richard Jones of Vision Fountain CIC, the project introduces progressive techniques of photography, film making, discussion and interviews into a primary school classroom environment in North Merthyr.

Energy (coal and renewables), industrial heritage and the children’s family heritage are used as a basis for discussion and research within the classroom. A professional photographic-filmmaker, teachers and volunteers will run workshops.

Aims

The overall aim of the project is to stimulate the children and their family’s interest in the visual and audio arts and empower their belief in creativity and inspire them to a better future.  Additionally the project is designed to reinforce the children and their family’s understanding of the importance that Wales’ and especially Merthyr’s industrial heritage has had upon the wider world.  The culmination a short film which they have been actively involved.

The project

Under guidance, children will create audio and visual assets related to their personal and geographical heritage that can be worked into a micro-documentary. The audio and visual assets created by the children in the classroom workshops will be carefully edited into a film.

The project offers the chance for persinal and social development of rhte children through the discussion groups and photographic sessions.  The archival research will aid IT skills whilst the research into their family heritage will aid in the parents support of their children in the project.
