My research interests are in the application of medical imaging techniques including MRI and video X-Ray to understand the biomechanics of different synovial joints during everyday activities. Being able to quantify and understand the effects of disease and injury to different joints and to assess the efficacy of surgical and non-surgical interventions.

As part of my early postdoctoral research associate work, I was project manager on the design and build of a bespoke Highspeed Biplane Video X-Ray system which has further enhanced our capabilities in the Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Research Facility. I am currently taking on the role of lab manager and radiation protection supervisor for the Biplane Video X-Ray lab and Micro CT Lab.

My current active projects are:

  • From brain to biomechanics: Quantifying human dexterity – developing an in-vivo imaging protocol to measure the movement of bones in the hand and wrist
  • COMSTIG: Motor cortex magnetic simulation during gait
  • Development of a quantitative MRI phantom for knee tissue
  • Personalised virtual surgery for optimised knee arthritis treatment
