Preventing mental health problems must target harmful social environments and promote nurturing environments across the early life course. The school environment is an important space to consider for fostering positive adolescent mental health. This lecture will describe how a whole-school intervention delivered by lay counsellors leads to large, incremental, and sustainable benefits on school climate, mental health, and bullying.

Vikram Patel is the Paul Farmer Professor and Chair of the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School. In addition to his role as department chair and his teaching commitments, Dr. Patel leads the Mental Health for All Lab at Harvard. His work has focused on the burden of mental health problems, their association with social disadvantage, and the use of community resources for their prevention and treatment.

This lecture is hosted by the Wolfson Centre and supported by the CU Global Health Network
