The team of scientific and technological experts work alongside the facilities to deliver a comprehensive service which includes:

Below are listed the facilities covered by the scope of ISO 9001:2015 certification:

Cell analysis and imaging

Cell analysis and imaging

The well-equipped cell analysis and imaging facilities are staffed by experts in flow cytometry, cell sorting and electron microscopy.

Genomics and bioinformatics

Gene expression and bioinformatics

Our genomics and bioinformatics team is able to offer everything from a fully managed genomics service to advice on technology choice, sample preparation or sample quality assessment.

Proteins and diagnostics

Proteins and diagnostics

Our proteins and diagnostics facility has equipment to evaluate molecules in biological samples and to study protein-ligand interactions.

We also work alongside the ISO certified Cardiff Lipidomics Facility, which provides mass spectrometry services both internally and externally to analyse and quantify lipids and small molecules.

Facilities not currently in the scope of ISO 9001:2015 certification include:

Electron and light microscopy

  • Analytic scanning and transmission EM
  • Critical point drying and sputter coating
  • Nanoparticle isolation and characterisation
  • Methodological development with notable expertise in bespoke tissue processing
  • JOEL 840A SEM and access to TEM (managed service only)

BD FACSDiscover S8 Cell Sorter (coming soon)

  • 5 laser configuration (including UV laser) and the ability to measure up to 73 detectors
  • Real-time imaging with BD CellView™ Image Technology
  • Combines spectral flow cytometry with real-time spatial and morphological insights

Heath Park Bioimaging Facility

  • Cryostat
  • Leica Bond RX Autostainer
  • Zeiss AxioObserver-Apotome system (brightfield and widefield fluorescence, OS-SIM for fixed samples only)
  • Zeiss LSM800 confocal (405, 488, 561 and 640 laser lines for fixed samples only)
  • Zeiss Axioscan Z1 slide scanner (brightfield and widefield fluorescence for fixed samples only)
