Robert Lloyd Griffiths OBE

As National Director for the Institute of Directors in Wales since 2009 he is responsible for representing the interests of IoD members in Wales; the implementation of IoD policies, standards and initiatives; the promotion of the profile of the IoD; engagement with businesses across Wales; developing and maintaining relationships with Government, academia, the media and the wider civil society.

Appointed by The Minister for Business and the Economy as Chair the Welsh Government’s Independent Strategic Board overseeing Business Support in Wales, he also previously chaired the Welsh Government’s Micro Business Task and Finish Group. This recommended several key outcomes adopted by Welsh Government including the establishing of Business Wales.

He has conducted several Ministerial Reviews for The Welsh Government as well as participating in, as well as chairing, a variety of governmental task and finish groups.

He is a member of The Secretary of State for Wales’ Business advisory Group and Brexit Advisory Panel. He is also a member of The First Minister for Wales’ Council for Economic Development and a member of The Welsh Government Tax Advisory Group appointed by The Minister for Finance.

He is a Board Member of Qualifications Wales, the independent organisation responsible for regulating general and vocational qualifications in Wales.

A frequent guest speaker, facilitator and media commentator he has a degree in Banking and Finance from Cardiff Business School, where he is now a member of the International Advisory Board.

He is involved with and has held Board/trustee positions with several charities including Arts & Business Cymru Wales, The Noah’s Ark Children’s hospital for Wales and The Order of St John. He currently chairs The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Wales Business Ambassadors group.

He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and holds the CIM Diploma.

Awarded an OBE in the 2014 Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to the economy and for voluntary services in Wales.
