Undergraduate

If you are an overseas applicant and your first language is not English, then you must have a proven level of English to study on our courses.

Applicants who require a Tier 4 visa to study in the UK must present an acceptable English language qualification in order to meet UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) requirements.

All undergraduate applicants must demonstrate a standard level English or Welsh Language that will enable them to benefit fully from their course of study. For the majority of applicants this can be a GCSE in English or Welsh Language.

We accept a variety of language qualifications for entry and for some programmes we may ask for higher grades in order to cope with the requirements of the course.

If you come from a majority English speaking country

You will not be required to further demonstrate your English Language level if you are a national of a majority English speaking country, and:

  • you have the equivalent of a pass in a High School qualification
    or
  • you have a bachelor or higher degree from this country

Find out if your country is defined as a majority English speaking country by UKVI.

Medicine applicants

All Medicine applicants will have to demonstrate the equivalent of GCSE Grade B in English Language, regardless of whether you are a national of a majority English speaking country.
