Time Team Talk

1 March 2012

To Cardiff University Students

Speaker: Time Team Series Director, Sian Price
Date: 1 March 2012

Time Team Series Director, Sian Price gave a well-received presentation to Cardiff archaeology students on St David's Day thanks to links between the Channel 4 television series and Cardiff School of History, Archaeology and Religion.

Sian elucidated on what makes good television, in terms of contributors, experts and presenters and showed a range of film clips featuring Tony Robinson, Phil Harding, Mick Aston and Francis Pryor in action.

Current Cardiff postgraduates, staff and students feature in various Time Team programmes this Spring including excavations at Caerleon and Kenfig.

Professor Miranda Aldhouse-Green, who has contributed to several series of Time Team, adds: 'Her closing message to the class was that perhaps enthusiasm is the most important factor in making good a Time Team programme that will engage a wide audience. The students of the Speaking the Past module were clearly enthralled and there were some very good questions, such as how to get into media as a career, what happens to the site after the 3-day dig, how contributors are chosen, and what the process is in programme making, from choosing the site to the post-excavation work.'
