Additional Information

Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine

Following discussions between the Royal Colleges of Physicians in the United Kingdom and the Pharmaceutical Industry, the Royal Colleges established the Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine (Dip Pharm Med). This is designed specifically for doctors employed in the Pharmaceutical Industry.

The Diploma examination consists of three written papers (essay, short answer, MCQ) and an oral examination designed to test the knowledge and proficiency of a candidate in pharmaceutical medicine. Candidates for the Diploma must hold qualifications in Medicine, Surgery and Midwifery and are required to produce evidence that their qualifications are either fully registrable in the British Medical Register or fully registrable in the country in which the qualification was granted.

Candidates must have undergone at least two years post-registration training and two years training in the Pharmaceutical Industry. The latter would usually be taken to mean working in a pharmaceutical company employing at least one other full-time medical adviser who is experienced in pharmaceutical medicine.
