Work in the media.
I had heard a lot about Cardiff University particularly about its journalism courses from both ex-students and locals from the UK. My undergraduate degree was actually in the field of journalism and mass communication. However, as the previous course was very practical, I wanted to do something more academic.
The most unique feature about this course that helped enhance my skill was the extensive use of research analysis that I was asked to do. This aspect not only helped me grasp the various research techniques but also helped me understand the way media texts are used as research samples.
The practical research work given as part of the assignments was the best thing. Through this I not only got to work on popular issues covered by the media but also got to understand media working to a certain extent.
Cardiff University provides a lot of scope to students in terms of academics and research. Besides this, all the lecturers are learned scholars and their first hand experience with the media provides the students with an insight into different dimensions of journalism. In addition, each lecturer being open to new ideas and views further assists students to convert their potential concepts into doable projects. The competitive environment, interesting assignments and extensive library resources all together aim to provide the best learning experience for all the students.
It was a lifetime experience with wonderful international students, knowledgeable lecturers and professors and a healthy competitive learning environment.
The module choices were very good, so we got taught a wide range of journalistic theories and practice in a short space of time.
I did my undergrad at Cardiff University and did not want to leave.
The Cardiff Social life is really good, not only do you have the night life and social places in town, but the Student Union is an amazing place to hang out and make friends.
Cardiff University is amazing, it not only has good courses and excellent lecturers but it caters to International and EU students which was ideal for me and made me feel very welcome.
In the future I plan on hopefully working at a publishing house as an intern in America, if that does not pan out, travelling it will be.
Being a student at Cardiff University has been one of the most scary, most enjoyable times of my life, I will never forget it.
The best thing about Journalism Studies was the expert tuition we received. Lectures were always thoughtfully prepared and delivered, and staff were supportive and helpful throughout. The breadth of topics and choice on offer exceeded my expectations. My media analysis and knowledge improved steadily as the year went on, as well as my confidence. Plus on my course I met friends for life!
I chose to study Journalism at Cardiff University as I was aware of their high standing in this field. The expertise of the department here was a large influencing factor in me choosing this course. I also liked the look of the modules on offer, and the academic focus of the course.
Cardiff is a relatively small but vibrant city, with lots of good bars and restaurants. The people here are friendly, and Cardiff Bay is a great day trip.
The JOMEC department are welcoming and supportive of MA students, especially if you do not have previous experience in your subject area. The degree is excellently taught and resourced, and you will find the city pleasant to live in.
Challenging, sociable and thought provoking!
The diversity of the course is the best bit. The course covers the media as a whole and you get to learn about all different aspects of the industry rather than focus on just one part.
The JOMEC department at Cardiff has a great reputation and having met with the lecturers and understood the possible learning outcomes of the modules it was the perfect choice!
