Emma Gomez Nicolau is a visiting PhD Student at Cardiff University School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies from the Sociology and Social Anthropology Department (University of Valencia).
She is currently working on news coverage of violence against women in Spanish televisions. Her research focuses on the analysis of the production process and the newscast analysis through the qualitative inquire.
The study on news coverage of violence against women includes the journalist construction of the violence against women phenomena and how newsworthiness, the journalistic criteria to organize the stories, and the relationships established in the newsrooms, do impact in how news on violence is produced. How the ideological aspects are included in the coverage are also examined to identify the discourses on violence against women.
I studied a BA in Journalism and a BA in Sociology at University of Valencia. Since 2010 I’m working as research fellow in the Sociology and Social Anthropology Department (University of Valencia) with a predoctoral fellowship.
