Geographical Research in Practice (CPT825)
The module is designed in three parts. In the autumn semester the module will give insights into the geographical research process. Focus will be given on setting appropriate questions for geographical projects, undertaking focused literature reviews, and identifying a range of suitable methods for geographical research.
In the second semester, students will be allocated a dissertation supervisor. Meeting in either one-on-one or small group sessions, the student and supervisor will go through the requirements of the dissertation and help begin shaping specific research questions and guiding the final literature review. This is undertaken with a view to guiding the student towards a successful dissertation research project in the summer. The students will be assessed via a completed literature review at the end of the semester.
Throughout the year, students will also be required to attend the range of seminars hosted by the School and given by practitioners working at the interface of geographical, spatial policy and planning issues. A further assessment will be linked to this attendance.
