Dr Dimitris Potoglou
Dr Dimitris Potoglou is a Lecturer in Transport and Applied Choice Analysis. Prior to joining the Cardiff School of Planning and Geography, Dimitris worked as a Research Policy-Analyst at RAND Europe, a not-for-profit research institute based in Cambridge, UK (since 2008, now part-time) and a post-doctoral fellow at the Delft University of Technology, Netherlands (2006-2008).
His research interests include travel behaviour, in particular car ownership, vehicle type-choice and demand for cleaner vehicles. Dimitris specialises in the design and analysis of stated preference discrete choice and best-worst scaling experiments and surveys. He has developed and contributed to research projects on the use of stated preference data to model the willingness to pay for improvements in water services, value the outcomes of social care, and estimate the demand for postal services under changes service offerings. He has also introduced stated preference discrete choice experiments to estimate the value of personal information and quantify the trade-offs individuals make across privacy, liberty and security under real-life settings. The latter study has been briefed to policy makers at various levels including cabinet members at the European Parliament and staff members of the US House Committee on Homeland Security.
Dimitris is a member of the editorial board of The Open Transportation Journal and serves regularly as a reviewer for journals and international conferences.
