Town and Country Planning & Landscape Design ranked 11th in the UK

Town and Country Planning & Landscape Design at Cardiff University has been ranked 11th in the UK in the Complete University Guide 2027.
The annual rankings provide independent comparative analysis of universities and subjects across the UK.
The result places Town and Country Planning & Landscape Design in the UK top 20 and recognises the strength of planning education, research and student support.
The subject scored particularly strongly for continuation and graduate prospects, with a continuation score of 96.5 and a graduate prospects outcomes score of 88.
Planning plays a vital role in shaping how places grow, change and respond to the needs of communities. At Cardiff, students explore the social, environmental, economic and political challenges facing towns, cities and regions, while developing the skills needed to help create fairer and more sustainable places.
Professor Gill Bristow, Head of the School of Geography and Planning, said: “To be ranked 11th in the UK for Town and Country Planning & Landscape Design is a strong result and one that reflects the quality and relevance of the work taking place here.
“Planning has a vital role to play in responding to some of the biggest challenges facing society, including housing, climate change, regeneration, transport and the future of our towns, cities and regions.
“This ranking recognises the strength of our teaching, research and professional connections, as well as the commitment of our staff and student community.”
Across the University, 29 subjects were ranked in the UK top 20 in the Complete University Guide 2027, with 12 placed in the top 10.
Cardiff University was ranked joint 27th in the UK and remains the highest ranked university in Wales.
From August 2026, teaching in urban planning will be part of the new School of Social and Spatial Sciences.
