Dean for the Welsh Language

The Dean for the Welsh Language is responsible for developing and implementing the University’s Welsh language strategy.

Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and representing the Welsh Language on the University Executive Board, the Dean promotes and supports efforts to advance and proudly celebrate the Welsh language and culture within the university.

The role coordinates key Welsh-language staff to ensure a unified approach to the University’s Welsh Language Strategy, Yr Alwad/Embrace It.

The Dean works collaboratively across the University to integrate the Welsh language into our culture and activities, primarily through Yr Academi Gymraeg, which oversees all Welsh-language initiatives and has its core staff in the Vice-Chancellor’s Office.

Dean for the Welsh Language

The current Dean for the Welsh Language is Dr Anghard Naylor, a Senior Lecturer and Senior Personal Tutor at the School of Welsh and the Academic Partner for Personalised Learning Support at the Learning and Teaching Academy.

The Dean works with Yr Academi Gymraeg to develop, connect, and raise awareness of Welsh language provision and our Welsh cynefin.

I look forward to leading the next phase of this work and contributing to the success of our new University strategy. Welsh language and culture can root us in place - in our culture, cynefin, and community - while opening doors to new speakers, communities, and cultures.
