The Senedd Election: Perspectives from outside Wales
As part of the celebrations for St. David's Day and International Women's Day at the start of March 2026, the Wales Governance Centre was delighted to host this guest lecture from Professor Rosie Campbell (King's College London) and Professor Sarah Childs (University of Edinburgh) to discuss the 2026 Senedd election from the perspective of the rest of the United Kingdom.
‘Can Devolution Survive the UK’s New Politics?’ – Professor Sir John Curtice
The Wales Governance Centre welcomed Professor Sir John Curtice of the University of Stratchlyde to deliver our 2025 Annual Lecture at the Pierhead Building in Cardiff Bay.
Professor Curtice is known across the United Kingdom for his experience in political polling and public attitudes and is a regular expert contributor to election analysis on broadcast media. Professor Curtice’s lecture discusses whether national devolution can survive the changing political contexts across the United Kingdom, particularly in the context of the 2026 national elections in Wales and Scotland.
25 Years of Welsh Government – Wales Governance Centre Annual Lecture 2024 with Jane Runeckles
Jane Runeckles was Head of the Special Adviser team for Mark Drakeford during his time as First Minister, Jane also served as a special adviser to Carwyn Jones and Rhodri Morgan for most of the first 25 years of devolution. She began working in the Senedd in 2000 for the Labour Group and spent a number of years working for the Wales TUC, responsible for public service policy during the early 2010s. As a special adviser, she worked on the Government of Wales Act 2006 and the Wales Act 2017 and has been involved in many of the key constitutional changes over this 25 year period. More recently she has left Welsh Government and taken up a post with the FDA, the union for managers and professionals in public service.
The 2024 UK General Election and Wales
The Welsh Election Study present their findings from the July 2024 UK General Election result in Wales. Dr Jac Larner and Professor Richard Wyn Jones present new data and analysis and discuss the state of the Welsh parties at the start of the campaign for the national election in Wales in 2026.
