Violence Research: All-Wales Licensed Premises Intervention to Reduce Alcohol-Related Violence

This project implements trial intervention on premises licensed for on-site alcohol consumption in Wales.

The intervention consists of a face-to-face interview with premises managers regarding risk factors for intoxication and disorder.  This information informs the creation of an action plan.

Police-recorded data on violent incidents will be collated specific to individual licensed premises for twelve months before and twelve months after the intervention.

Comparison will be made between the group with intervention, and the control group which does not receive intervention.

Project aims

The aims of this project are to:

  • finalise the design and implementation of a licensed premises intervention to maximise its acceptability and sustainability
  • estimate the intervention’s effectiveness at reducing assault-related injury
