Overview

Our brand-new MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) focuses on innovations in language teaching and learning, set against the backdrop of rapid technological change.

Alongside traditional TESOL modules, you’ll benefit from hands-on experience with virtual platforms and digital learning, preparing you for the evolving demands of global education.

Together, we’ll focus on student-centred learning and development. We won’t just teach you how to teach; we’ll support you to become reflective, adaptive educators and researchers equipped for the future.

We’ve designed the programme with multiple audiences in mind: those with little – or no – experience who want to gain a comprehensive foundation in language pedagogy, acquisition theories, and classroom methodologies, and those already practicing as teachers of English as a second or foreign language who wish to deepen their expertise, reflect on their professional practice, and enhance their career prospects.

You’ll graduate with the skills and knowledge to teach with purpose and understanding, or ready to take on further research with PhD study.

Entry requirements

A 2:1 in a relevant subject area such as English language, linguistics, English language and literature (combined), communication, modern languages, or an equivalent international degree.

If you do not meet the above criteria, you may still apply but should provide additional evidence to support your application such as a CV and references.

English language requirements

IELTS with an overall score of 7.0 with at least 6.5 in all other subskills, or equivalent.

Overview

Our Sport and Exercise Physiotherapy programme is aligned with the competencies set out by the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sports and Exercise Medicine (ACPSEM) and international organisations such as the International Sport and Exercise Association (ISEPA).

Our programme is suited to qualified physiotherapists, from the UK and around the world who work across a variety of sectors involving the management of sport and exercise-related injuries. It provides an opportunity to take your learning to the next level, enhancing your skills and knowledge to critically evaluate your own professional practice and contribute to service improvement and high-quality patient care. This will help you practise safely and effectively, while enabling you to influence sport and exercise physiotherapy healthcare within your own country and beyond.

Your learning will be supported by experienced researchers and academics who are experts in their field. You will learn from a highly experienced team whose expertise spans major multi-sport events, including the Olympic and Commonwealth Games, as well as international professional sport. You will also be designated a personal tutor who will support you throughout your studies.

If English is not your first language, you will also have access to open-access English language courses.

Entry requirements

A second class honours degree 2:2 (or international equivalent) in BSc Physiotherapy degree (or equivalent international qualification) or a pre-reg MSc physiotherapy degree.

Post graduate clinical experience is not a requirement for entry to the programme.

Applications are considered on a ‘personal statement’ where a judgement is made on your suitability for the programme.

English language requirements

Students whose first language is not English will be required to pass an IELTS test (or recognised equivalent)

Requirement is IELTS with an overall score of 6.5 with at least 5.5 in all other subskills, or an accepted equivalent. Please see our English Language Requirements guidance for more details.
