Reducing the travel footprint of major academic conferences: a focus on The European Association for Sport Management Conference
Conferences are an important part of academia, providing attendees with opportunities for networking, developing new collaborations and discussing new research ideas.
However, the environmental impacts surrounding academic conferences can be significant, particularly their associated travel emissions.
About
This project will:
- assess attendee travel to and during EASM 2022 and its associated carbon emissions
- identify factors influencing attendee travel choices and attitudes towards reducing the impact of conference-related travel
The research will be used to enhance the Local Organising Committee and EASM’s understanding of the significance of attendee travel and factors driving the scale of their travel footprints.
It will also be used to inform future policy and decision making on reducing the travel footprint of attendees and lead to staging more sustainable conferences.
