Hyder Hydraulics Laboratory

Hyder Hydraulics Laboratory

Analysis of flow, solute (including pollutant) and sediment transport processes in coastal, estuarine and river basins and contact tanks.

Equipment

Name Make/Model Details
Model Water Treatment Tank Designed and Constructed - in house 3 m long x 2 m wide x 1.5 m deep model water treatment tank, used for studying mixing processes in water treatment tanks with a view to reducing and/or optimising the disinfection rates in treatment works.
Narrow Open Channel Flume Narrow Armfield Open Channel Flume 10 m long x 0.3 m wide x 0.3 m deep recirculating unidrectional flume for open channel hydraulics flow studies. The flume is used primarily for a range of hydraulics studies including vegetation, diffusion/dispersion, flood impact, water quality etc.
Recirculating Unsteady Flow Flume Constructed - as per design Recirculating Unsteady Flow Flume, 1.2 m wide, 17 m long, capable of delivering 1 m/s current with a depth of 0.8 m. Flume designed primarily for studying design, operation and efficiency of model tidal stream turbines.
Tidal Basin Constructed in-house Large coastal basin for tidal flow studies, with recirculating river flows. Used for coastal hydrodynamic and pollution studies.
Tidal Basin with Riverine Inputs Coastal Basin - Designed and Constructed in-house Large 5 m x 4 m x 0.8 m deep coastal basin, with overflow weir for tidal generation, with recirculating flow for riverine inputs. Basin can be used to study scaled model hydodynamic and pollutant transport processes in coastal and estuarine basins.
Wide Open Channel Flume Wide Armfield Type Open Channel Flume 10 m long x 1.2 m wide x 0.3 m deep recirculating unidrectional flume for open channel hydraulics flow studies. The flume is used primarily for a range of hydraulics studies including vegetation, diffusion/dispersion, flood impact, water quality etc.
