Samsung portable ultrasound

The Samsung RS80A is a high-resolution ultrasound system capable of a variety of uses. The system is portable.

Make/model Samsung RS80A ultrasound.
Details High quality Ultrasound with a number of linear ray transducers suitable for use for MSK, abdomen, vascular and small organs. Also able to be used for a variety of research purposes on materials e.g. gels.
Facility Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Research Facility (MSKBRF)
School School of Engineering
Typical uses Musculoskeletal (MSK), Endocrinology, Cardiology

Currently, our system is equipped with the following 2D linear array transducers suitable for musculoskeletal, abdomen, vascular and small organs ultrasound application:

  • L3-12A with 50 mm field of view
  • LA2-9A with 44.16 mm field of view
  • LA4-18B with 37.5 mm field of view.

Contact the Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Research Facility (MSKBRF) on mskbrf@cardiff.ac.uk or telephone +44 (0) 29 2087 6436.

£367.13 per hour.

Technician support is available.

Ultrasound is generally considered a very safe modality of imaging as no radiation is used. The ultrasound has display indices to enable the monitoring of Thermal index (TI) and the mechanical index (MI) during operation. A detailed task risk assessment (RA) needs to be approved by the Lab Manager and ENGIN Health and Safety Manager before use.

Ultrasound should only be carried out when there is a clinical or research benefit. All studies using ultrasound on human participants should be fully approved by ENGIN ethics before scanning can take place.
