About us
Reducing the Impact of Diabetic Foot Ulcers (REDUCE) is a multidisciplinary collaboration of researchers, clinicians, and patient partners dedicated to improving outcomes, preventing recurrence, and reducing the burden of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) on the NHS.
Our work focuses on developing and evaluating a new intervention that supports long-term behavioural and psychological change to prevent ulcer recurrence.
The REDUCE intervention began with a pilot trial and is now being tested in a main clinical and cost-effectiveness trial.
Project phases
The intervention has two phases:
- an initial intervention phase consisting of an 8-week psychological and behavioural intervention with a trained healthcare professional, to support changing behaviours aimed at reducing recurrence of diabetic foot ulcers
- a maintenance phase utilising the developed maintenance handbook and digital maintenance intervention (website), to sustain behaviour change made during the REDUCE sessions, serving as a reminder and acting as additional support when the sessions end
