University shortlisted in 'Outstanding Leadership and Management Team' category

The University's senior management team is in the running for a prestigious higher education leadership prize.

The University Executive Board (UEB) has been shortlisted in the annual Times Higher Education's Leadership and Management Awards (THELMAs) in the Outstanding Leadership and Management Team category.

The category recognises the UK university able to demonstrate the greatest breadth and depth of leadership and management skills.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Colin Riordan said: "I am delighted that, thanks to the efforts of all staff, the University's senior management team has been ranked among the very best in the sector from across the UK.

"Through our strategic plan, The Way Forward, we've embarked on a programme of major change under our four priority areas of research and innovation, education, international and engagement. As a senior management team we set ourselves the key task of becoming a top 20 UK University and 100 in the world.

"However, the key to delivering the change is ensuring we take all our staff and students and our wider communities with us.

"That is why I am particularly pleased that the creative staff engagement workshops that we put in place to ensure all staff have a chance to input directly into the change programme was key to our shortlisting."

The University Executive Board is not the only management team at the University to be shortlisted.

The University's College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences has been singled out for specific recognition for the way that it has planned, developed and established itself within the new University College structure with a shortlisting in the Outstanding Departmental Administration Team category.

In addition, the University's Library Service has been shortlisted for the Outstanding Library Team category.

The Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards shortlist was announced today (Thursday 16th April) with the overall winner announced during a ceremony on 18th June 2015 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London.
