Three Transport and Planning (MSc) students have been awarded prestigious Rees Jeffreys Road Fund bursaries to support their postgraduate studies in transport and planning.

William Belkebir, George Scott and William Musselwhite have each secured funding from the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund, which supports education and research in the field of transport.

The bursaries will support William, George and William as they undertake their postgraduate study, developing the knowledge and skills needed to help address the changing challenges facing transport and planning.

The Fund was established by William Rees Jeffreys, a pioneer in improving travel for road users and in developing the national road classification system, in 1950. Following his death in 1954, an endowment from his estate has continued to provide financial support for education, training and research relating to roads and transport.

The Transport and Planning programme has a long history of helping students secure external bursaries and funding to support their academic and professional development.

Programme Director, Professor Dimitris Potoglou, said: “Congratulations to William, George and William on receiving these prestigious bursaries. Securing support from the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund is a fantastic achievement and reflects their commitment to developing their knowledge and careers in transport and planning.

“We look forward to welcoming them to the programme and supporting them as they develop the skills and expertise needed to contribute to the future of transport and planning.”

William Belkebir said: “I’m incredibly grateful to have been awarded a bursary from the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund to support my postgraduate studies in Transport and Planning. This support has eased the financial pressures of postgraduate study and allowed me to focus on developing the knowledge and skills needed to pursue a career in transport planning. Thanks to this award, I am more motivated than ever to contribute to sustainable transport solutions that improve how people move around and experience the places around them.”

William Musselwhite said: "I’m delighted and very grateful to have received a Rees Jeffreys Road Fund bursary to support my MSc in Transport and Planning. The course provides an important bridge between my undergraduate degree in Engineering Physics and my ambition to build a career in transport planning. I am particularly looking forward to applying my technical and analytical skills to understanding how transport systems can be planned to better serve people and communities. This support has made a real difference in helping me take that next step.”

George Scott said: "I’m extremely grateful to have been awarded the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund Bursary to support my postgraduate studies in Transport and Planning. The support provided by the Trustees will make a real difference as I pursue my MSc, allowing me to focus on my studies and develop the knowledge and skills required to contribute and effect the future of transport.

“I’m particularly interested in how transport planning can create more sustainable and accessible places and receiving this bursary is a great encouragement as I work towards these goals. Therefore, I am very thankful to the Trustees for their generosity and support during this vital stage of my academic and professional journey.”
