TeamCardiff Cardiff Half runners raise £30,000 for cancer and neuroscience research
5 October 2026
On Sunday 4 October around 100 alumni, students, and staff ran the Cardiff Half Marathon to raise funds for Cardiff University research.
#TeamCardiff runners completed the 13.1 miles to fundraise towards neuroscience and mental health, and cancer research.
The team have collectively raised a fantastic £30,000, with runners securing sponsorship from friends and family, organising fundraising parties, and bucket collections to reach their targets.
This will provide vital funds to support the next generation of cancer and neuroscience researchers, accelerating the development of treatments for a range of cancers, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, ADHD, depression, and schizophrenia.
On the day, runners were cheered on by thousands of spectators, but received an extra boost at Mile 8 at the #TeamCardiff cheer station. Supporters, family, friends, mascot Dylan the Dragon, and Cardiff University Brass Band came together to create a brilliant atmosphere and give our runners the encouragement needed to tackle the final 5 miles to the finish line.
After the race, Physiotherapy students from the School of Healthcare Sciences provided free post-race massages to exhausted runners.
We’re so grateful to all our #TeamCardiff runners as well as the volunteers who made it such a fantastic event. Diolch.
