The Cardiff NLP Group has hosted experts from around the world at their fourth annual workshop.

Held at Abacws, the home of the University's School of Computer Science and Informatics, the NLP Summer Workshop brought invited speakers from the UK, Europe and beyond for two days of talks and collaborative sessions.

This was the fourth edition of the workshop, and the list of invited speakers includes renowned scientists and researchers from both academia (University of Cambridge, University of Edinburgh, University of Sheffield, IT University of Copenhagen and University of Pennsylvania, among many others) and industry (including Google, Amazon, Hugging Face, DeepMind, Huawei, and Cohere).

Such accessible events are needed, given the intimidating scale of major NLP and AI conferences like ACL or NeurIPS. The welcoming environment encouraged networking with peers and leading researchers. The diverse programme was well received, with attendees actively engaging and eager for future editions.

At the Digital Transformation Innovation Institute, we’re deeply invested in the future of Artificial Intelligence—particularly in ensuring that it is safe, secure, and aligned with social values. The themes being explored here—whether it’s responsible AI, rethinking evaluation, building more robust models, or addressing real-world challenges—are directly aligned with our mission to support responsible innovation in AI.

The event was funded by the School of Computer Science and Informatics and was sponsored by the Digital Transformation Innovation Institute, which focuses on responsible, safe and secure AI.
