Game of Codes is a coding competition for primary school students organised by Technocamps.

Cardiff University hosted the finals in Abacws in celebration of  the competition's 10th birthday, with competitors from across Wales taking part.

Technocamps is a programme supporting digital upskilling in Wales and increasing young people's engagement with STEM subjects.

This year's pan-Wales National Game of Codes Programming Competition invited students to create a piece of software using  'Superheroes of Science'  as the focus.

Competitors were able to join as either team entries or individual entries and came from schools across Wales, including Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham, Maesteg, Conwy, and the Vale of Glamorgan.

The brief was to create an original software design in any coding language, which could be in the form of a game, website, app, quiz, or animation.

"I am blown away by the standard of entries, deciding on a winner was incredibly difficult."
Dr Catherine Teehan, Director of Employability and Outreach in the School of Computer Science and Informatics

The aim of the competition is to enable interested pupils to develop their problem solving, communication, and teamwork skills while improving their knowledge of computer programming in a fun and inventive way.

On the day, the finalists showcased  their entries to academics and special guest judges in Abacws, with the best entries awarded at a prize-giving ceremony.
