Computer Science Outreach Team announced as finalists in Wales STEM Awards 2024

School of Computer Science and Informatics Outreach Team shortlisted as finalists in the 2024 Wales STEM Awards.

The Outreach Team has been recognised as a result of its commitment to making a difference to the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) agenda in Wales.

The team has been shortlisted in two categories - STEM Team of the Year and Educational Programme of the Year.

The Outreach Team, comprised of a team of staff from the School of Computer Science and Informatics and student STEM Ambassadors, aims is to promote digital skills and digital careers to young people across south Wales through visiting local primary and secondary schools to deliver workshops to pupils on coding and other important elements of computer science.

It also supports the wider university in its role as a Technocamps hub, a Welsh Government programme providing young people across Wales with computing-based outreach sessions.

The Wales STEM Awards 2024 aims to shine spotlight those leading the sector in Wales, including those creating an impact on the Welsh economy, those addressing the STEM diversity gap and skills shortage, and those inspiring and raising aspirations of the next generation.

In total, 40 organisations and individuals across Wales have been shortlisted as finalists in 14 categories, all of whom will be considered by a panel of expert judges from across the STEM sector.

Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony taking place in Cardiff on  17 October.

The exceptional quality of the entries clearly reflects the strong progress being made in advancing the STEM agenda across Wales. We are excited to celebrate and showcase the remarkable work being accomplished throughout the country at our awards evening in October."
